ANZAC Poem

A poem I wrote as a kid:

The War started in 1914
men came from all over to enlist
they appeared so keen to take part
regardless of the possible risk

Shipped off to Egypt for training
the trip seemed to take them for ever
nothing stops men who are dedicated
and filled with the sense of endeavor

Up the beach they charged
diving into trench after trench

despite the horrible stench

When the retreat started
the Anzacs sneaked out at night
the Turks crept up
but found no-one to fight

Create Your Own Dan Brown Novel

I really quite enjoyed Dan Brown’s books, though I can see what it is about them that irritates people, so I must say I found the Create Your Own Dan Brown Novel site rather funny

IP PABX

I’m in the process of building myself an IP PABX at home, but in order to do that I needed a machine to build it on, so I searched around, and found myself all the bits I needed, well, almost all, because it turns out I need a motherboard with PCI 2.2 slots in it, so I ordered a board off ebay.
It was a Compaq board, but it looked fairly standard, till I went to plug the power supply in and found the socket was 24 pins, where standard ATX is only 20. So I emailed the guy, and he sent me a power supply for it, couriered, no charge!
So I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending dinosaur_pc

I’ve too much other stuff to do at the moment to build it, but at least I think I have all the bits now!

Liz is Crawling

Liz started crawling on Saturday! She’s been rolling around everywhere for weeks, and she started inching backwards on Friday, but on Saturday she just took off forwards. Not fast, but moving. Fun times ahead.

Google is my recipe book (index)

I’ve had a few days at home, so amongst other things, I’ve had a chance to do some cooking.

I didn’t know what to cook, so I headed over to google to find out what I should do with the ingredients I had (or at least the main ingredient).

Googling for”pork steak recipe” helped me find:
http://www.meals.com/Recipes/RecipeDetails.aspx?RecipeID=6146 which was absolutely beautiful, while googling for “mince recipe” lead me to
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/minihotpot_74329.shtml which was fairly average..

Identity Theft

I thought Identity theft only happened in movies like The Net but it’s happened to me…

Someone has used my name address, date of birth and stuff to apply for credit cards, and at least one has actually been issued, activated and used to purchase something.

It started with a call from AussieMastercard which Bernie took and she thought they were just we cold calling. She mentioned it to me, so when I got a call later from GE Financial Services, I was rather suspicious..

I’m still waiting for paperwork to arrive, but I’ve got to goto the police and report it too.

Playing in the Park

From a trip with Uncle Tez to the park:

When I last took Bec to the park, on arrival we found an adult man (early 20s) perched on the top of the slide, talking to some friends at the bottom, and not looking like going anywhere. Bec and I went to play on the swings, and when she became tired of them she made towards the slide, then stopped. She looked at the man for a moment, hesitated, and said to him &quot::I want you to get down&quot::.

The guys friends said &quot::I think you have been told!&quot::, and he promptly complied. They all had a good laugh. So Bec had her first (maybe) taste of authority over unfamiliar adults.

I apologised to the people at that time, then took Bec aside, and gently told her that whenever you ask something of an adult you do not know, always say &quot::please&quot::. Then off we went to the slide…
