Lizzie loves order

Lizzie has what I term OCT: Obsessive Compulsive Tendencies. It’s not OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) as it is not really causing a problem, but she definitely has tendencies that way.

She will often line up her toys in straight lines and sort things by height and colour where other kids would just bunch them up together.

A case in point: a few days ago, Bern found her opening the zip of the bean bag, and when She reminded her that she wasn’t to do that she said “but I thought the beans needed to be sorted”

Of course, I’m totally the same, and so is my mother… 🙂

First day at school

\""\""Beccy\’s first day at school. She was very excited and up at 6am (1/2 an hour earlier than she needed to be). It was a lovely morning, we went into the classroom, put things in their places and then Bec gave us a hug and said see you later.. Lizzie was the most upset, because she wanted to stay and play with the play-doh. You can click through the image to a gallery of other photos.

Out of the mouthes of babes

Okay, this is old, but It\’s been in my inbox for ages, and I\’m cleaning out….

Bern was driving our two girls, and their cousin Josh around the other day, and Josh pipes up it\’s 9 more sleeps to Vote Day. Bern thought she must have misheard him, so I asked him to repeat it and sure enough he said it\’s 9 more sleeps to Vote Day. So I asked him what vote day was. He said it\’s where people go to vote for John Howard or Kevin Rudd and the person with the most sheets of paper gets to be in charge.

Driving through Lilydale yesterday, Lizzie piped up and said:

“Look Mummy, it’s Hungry Macs”

maybe she knows something we don’t about merger talks between McDonalds & Hungry Jacks (Burger King).

I\’ve been trying to be efficient, and downloading files direct to the server, but some of our sites do not support wget for easy downloading. I did a bit of hunting around, and found you can do the same thing with:

Treo 650

I have and love a Palm Treo 650 (link updated). It is fairly old now (about 100 years old in gadget time) but still working well. Bern was using on the weekend and was bugged by an idiosyncrasy I’d never been able to work out. received SMS messages were dated into the future, often the next day. After a bit of playing, we worked out they all seemed to be 18 hours and 10 minutes in the future which is a fairly odd number.

Seeing as I had some time up my sleeve once the girls went to bed, I googled it, and not only were there a couple of other people that had the problem, there was a patch!

I also found this wonderful thread on engadget about people’s favourite Treo apps.

Cold Glasses

Bern has had a nasty bout of conjunctivitis recently, and it’s been rather warm, and therefore bright, so Bern has been wearing here sunglasses more than usual. This morning Liz told mummy to “Put her cold glasses on” and it was a few seconds before Bern twigged that Liz meant her normal, prescription glasses. Cold is opposite to sun, so if one pair were sun glasses, the other must be cold glasses.

Dedicated Artist

\""DedicatedLizzie is in the process of giving up her daytime sleep. Some days she manages without it, some days she asks to go to bed, and some days she just crashes out. Bern and I found Lizzie like this this afternoon. She fell sound asleep standing up at the drawing table in the middle of a drawing. Even when Bern picked her up to lay her on the couch she was still out to it.

Fitness and injury

Things have slowed down rather a bit already. I pulled a hamstring (again) playing tennis on Tuesday night. I really need to find some way to warm my hamstrings up better before and during the sets, or possibly just go for the deep heat.

I will do my best to go for a quiet walk on the treadmill later this morning, just to stretch it out a bit.
