I’ve often wondered why most of the vineyards I see in the Yarra Valley have a rose bush at the end of each row. My best guess was that it attracted the bees to fertilise the grape flowers, but Bern put an end to the controversy by asking someone at a wine tasting….
The answer is: If there are any afids about, the attack the roses first and provide warning before they get to the grape vines. Kind of like the Miner’s Canary.
A Meta Refresh is used to redirect to another web page. I’m constantly forgetting how to do it, so I’m documenting it here..
What are meta refresh tags or meta redirect tags?
The meta refresh tag is a meta http-equiv tag which, when inserted into the header of an HTML document, will cause the visitor’s browser to load a new web page after a specified number of seconds have passed after the initial document has loaded, basically redirecting the visitor to the new page. The webmaster specifies the new page to be loaded and the number of seconds that must pass before the new page is loaded. The meta refresh tag takes the following form:
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="1;url=http://www.domain.com/link.html">
In the tag above, you can substitute any number for the 1, and you can substitute any URL for http://www.domain.com/link.html. The meta refresh tag should not be used on any page that you want the search engines to index. You should never set the meta redirect to 0, as that will cause problems with Google.
Bern had the following coversation with Bec:
Bec: Where’s Daddy?
Bern: Daddy’s at …….?
Bec: Home. (Giggle) No Daddy’s at work.
Bern: That’s right Daddy’s at work.
Bec: Doing stuff!
Bern: Doing stuff?
Bec: Yep, doing stuff.
It’s nice to know Bec thinks I do something…
In the last few days I’ve come across two site with interesting information that I can see myseld using repeatedly:-
www.hardwarebook.org and
Oz Broadband Speed Test.
Bec is getting to the stage where we are looking to move her into a full size bed, so we decided to take the plunge and move the spare bed in there just so she could be used to having it around. Of course, she immediately wanted to sleep in it, but during yesterday afternoon’s sleep, that only lasted about 3 minutes, after which time we heard feet on the carpet and moved her (as agreed) to the cot.
For the night sleep she wanted to try again, so we dutifully tucked her in and left her to sleep. which she did, until about 4am when she woke us up, crying. I went in and found her lying on the floor in front of the change table (right beside the bed) crying in her sleep. I think she was probably just cold due to a wet nappy and no blankets. I took her to the potty and then put her back in bed where she stayed until after 8am.
It is kind of scary to see her in that huge bed, and Bern was really teary that our little girl was growing up so fast, but I don’t think she’ll be moving out on her own just yet…..
You know the stereotype where you put food on a kid’s spoon or fork and then zoom it around their face before the aeroplane lands in their mouth? Someone has taught Bec (I think it might be her cousin Jessica) and she occasionally asks for it if she wants us to feed her.
Last night she took it to a new level. Sitting there eating her own dinner, I noticed her pick up a piece of carrot, then she said aeroplane, zoomed it around a bit and stuck it in her own mouth.. I nearly fell of the chair laughing.
This site lists some basic information about a electricity and also what voltages/frquencies and plugs are used around the world, which is very handy if you happen to be travelling
I rang up AAPT today to get Global Roaming and GPRS turned on for my Mobile. They have a service where they SMS you the details of how to setup GPRS on your phone, if they have it in their database of most used phones, but the girl had never heard of a Handspring Treo 180g before. She wondered if “”Handspring Treo”” was 3 people doing flips down the road….
I guess I cant fault the logic…
Today Croydon Hills Primary School became the second school in the state to roll out a wireless network based on the WINS program, and the first to be completed entirely by the local technician.
It was a long couple of weeks doing the site survey, configuring all the access points and then connecting them and placing them in the right place. The final part of the puzzle was put in place this afternoon when the EduPaSS server arrived and was installed.
Not that it’s entirely finished mind you. There are still certificates to create and install on all the teacher laptops, and once we have some students back we’ll begin the process of real-world usage which will see us fine tuning the placement of Access Points for the next 12-18 months.
