I happened to glance at a picture up on the wall in the staff room at one of my schools the other day, and my first thought was gee, that’s pixelated”. I looked back aagain a second later and realised my mistake…
It was a tapestry….

Rolling & Blowing Kisses
Rebecca has started rolling over a lot more frequently now, in fact when Bern tried to give her some Tummy Time the other day, Bec rolled staright onto her back. Bern then put her back on her tummy and this all happenend 4 more time. Bern eventually got the hint…
The other new thing is blowing kisses. I blow a kiss into her room every time I walk past her door, as well as at other times, and she has started doing the same thing. I thought it might be an accident at first, but she actually does it in response to me blowing her kisses. She’s so cute..
Rebecca Rolls Over
Rebecca rolled over for the first time the other day (actually it was nearly two weeks ago, on her 3 month Birthday”) but I missed it (I was in the room but had my back to her). I’ve held off posting hoping that she would do it again, but she hasn’t. It wont be too much longer though and we’ll be chasing her around the house.
Rebeccas Baptism
Yesterday Rebecca was baptised into the church at a beautiful ceremony at St John’s in Mitcham. We had dozens of friends and Family present, and many more joined us for a celebratory lunch at home afterwards.
Huge thankyous to Jen & Graham and Daniel as Godparents. We think you are really special people and know you will be a really wonderful influence in Bec’s life. Other people to thank include Brendan (sausages), Marie (cake), Chris & Lisa (cooking the BBQ) Mon, Jase, Tam, Dan, Chris, Lisa, Jeanette, Julie, Paul, Nette & Rachael (Setup, Bread, Salads and Desserts) and anyone else I’ve forgotten.
It was great to see everyone there. If we didn’t get a chance to catch up with you on the day, we will soon, we promise.
Rebecca Weigh in
Rebecca was weighed again today (27/3) and she came in at a whopping 4740g or 10lb 7.5oz. From such tiny begingings she is now really thriving, to the point where she now has a double chin, and when she dribbles milk out of her bottle, it’s really hard to mop up. The fact that she has such a strong neck means she keeps her head where she wants it, and doesn’t just move it at the slightest push from the mop up cloth like she used to.
She is now 54cm long and starting to get a bit of hair.
HandSprung Visor:(
Bugger..
Actually it still works, but it’s kinda hard to use.
It was in a plastic bag I’d been using to carry a few around in, and I think I stepped on it in the dark on Sunday night.
Now I’m looking for a new one. What I want is a Treo 180g but I don’t have $1200. Palm only seem to have colour ones for $lots except the Zire, which, while cute, only has 2Mb which I’m not sure is enough. (The Visor had 16Mb). What I really want is a Palm m125 like Jase’s.
A whole month on..
Rebecca has now passed her 2 month Birthday” and is doing great. Her weight is up to 3760g (8lb 4oz) and she is starting sleep for longer periods at night. She went off the breast early in Feb and has progressed from 90ml bottles up to 130ml per feed. She feeds 4 hourly during the day and has been known to sleep for 5-6 hours at a stretch during the night.
She has started smiling at people too, which is really cute. She is really filling out, and getting taller (longer?) (52.1cm) and is well out of the 00000 clothes and moving through the 0000’s at a great rate of knotts.
Bern and I are also starting to settle down and get life back in order, though there never seems to be enough time to sleep..
Weight gain
Rebecca’s weight is now up to 2720g, according to the Maternal Child Health Nurse’s scales, which is a nice improvement over her discharge weight.Everything else has been going well, though breastfeeding, and especially expressing after the feed is not going as well. Bern has also been feeling a little off colour for few days which doesn’t help much
Rebecca’s Home
We were able to bring Rebecca Home from hospital on Wednesday the 22nd January at 11am. She had put on a total of 230g since birth, for a discharge weight of 2270g.
We had a couple of difficult times since then, mainly due to the fact that it was sugested that we use Avent bottles with a #1 (Newborn) teat for her comp feeds. This was fine, and we were able to borrow a set of bottles, but the Avent teats are much bigger than the ones we had been using in hospital, and we have found it difficult to get her to open her little mouth wide ehough to be able to get anything out of the bottle. There have been a few breastfeeding dramas as well, for much the same reason.
More Weight
Rebecca is putting on more weight, up 35g on 16th Jan and another 40g today (18th). Bern’s milk supply is increasing, partly due to some medication she has been given (Motilium) which is also good news. Rebecca is attaching to the breast better and we are making progress.
Some of the complimentary feeds (comps) are now being given to Bec as a bottle (rather than a cup) probably mainly so not as much is spilt. They use a special teat that has a tiny hole so she has to work for the food though, otherwise babies tend to go off the breast, simply because the bottle is less work.
Finally, on a personal note, a huge thank-you to all those who have sent gifts, cards or just called. We really apreciate your support. If you don’t hear from us in a real hurry, I’m sorry, we do still love you. We are really busy at the moment, especially Bern who is racing back and forth to the hospital and even when she is at home she has to be up every three hours to express.
